Last Thursday, NYC Dept. of Cultural Affairs Commissioner Kate Levin gave public testimony at the City Council's Committee for Cultural Affairs, Libraries and International Intergroup Relations. There was some good news here, in the midst of cutbacks during the current economic climate. Commissioner Levin announced Mayor Bloomberg's series of initiatives to help arts and cultural nonprofits during the current economic situation. One of Mayor Bloomberg's initiatives concerns the availability of funds for nonprofits waiting for contract reimbursement. The Returnable Grant Fund - a bridge loan adminstered by the Fund for the City of New York- will be increased from eight million to twenty million for the next two fiscal years, good news for nonprofits who do business with the City of New York.
